5 Easy DIY Christmas Ornaments In One Afternoon
There's something nearly the vacation flavor that turns me into a crafting addict this time of year! I have a couple shoe boxes filled with Christmas/winter crafty items and information technology seems to be calling my name every day lately. Then the other day I decided to use my crafty odds and ends to make some DIY Christmas ornaments, and I'm here to share all 5 of my handmade ornaments with you today!
With just a few supplies and a free afternoon, you can create all five of these DIY Christmas ornaments yourself! Seriously, the supply list to make all of them is pretty small and even includes some easy-to-find thrift store items that brand the price of these ornaments side by side to nada. How do handmade ornaments for pennies sound? Good? Expert. Let me bear witness you how!
Cheers to DecoArt for providing festive paint to make these DIY ornaments. As ever, all ideas and opinions are my own. This post contains chapter links. See my disclosure for more information.
I made all of these ornaments in one afternoon! And honestly, a big chunk of that was dry time so the bodily time spent working is pretty minimal. I got some cleaning done in between coats of paint, but it would be then fun to become a grouping of girlfriends together to sip spiked cocoa and chat the afternoon away while making some handmade ornaments.
Supplies For All five DIY Christmas Ornaments
- DecoArt Maxx Gloss Acrylic Paint in Jungle Leaf, Poblano Pepper and Garnet Stone
- DecoArt Glamour Dust in Ice Crystal
- DecoArt Snowfall-Tex
- Burnt Out Bulbs From Christmas Lights
- Ball Ornaments (Thrift Store Or Dollar Store)
- Pinecones (Dollar Shop, Craft Shop or Nature!)
- Cream Assurance (Dollar Shop or Arts and crafts Store)
- Jingle Bells(Dollar Store or Arts and crafts Store)
- Contrasted Ribbon
- Assorted Paint Brushes
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
DIY Ornament #1 – The Frosty Pinecone
This snow-covered pinecone is ambrosial, isn't it?
Use a small foam brush to dab on the DecoArt Snow-Tex. It's thick, so simply dab away and use heavier "snow" to the top of the pinecone with lighter bits of snowfall farther down.
Three toothpicks stuck in the pinecone will help information technology stand upwards while drying! In one case dry, paint a glaze of DecoArt Glamour Dust over the "snow" to add magical shimmer.
When all of your paint is dry, hot glue ribbon, greenery and cord on acme.
DIY Ornament #2 – The Shimmery Snowball
I love this mini snowball, specially with its tiny jingle bells on top!
Use a small foam brush to dab DecoArt Snowfall-Tex all over the foam ball. This stuff adds dimension to your foam so information technology looks similar real snowfall.
3 toothpicks stuck in the foam will continue information technology off the tabular array while drying. In one case dry, paint a coat of DecoArt Glamour Dust over the "snow".
Cut a loop of ribbon for your hanger and knot the ends together. Use the tip of a scissors to cleave a pigsty in the foam large enough to prepare the knot inside. Fill your hole with hot glue and attach the knotted terminate of the ribbon hanger.
Tie a few jingle bells together and hot mucilage them onto the ribbon along with a sprig of greenery.
DIY Ornamentation #3 – The Festive Bulbs
Can you believe I found a whole shoe box of these old calorie-free bulbs at the austerity store?! Many were faded, scratched or burnt out so I decided to repurpose them into DIY Christmas ornaments.
Paint a coat of the DecoArt Maxx Gloss over each decoration. I clipped a wooden clothespin onto the bulb base of operations to create a stand so the paint could dry without touching the table. This paint dries smoothen and glossy which makes your paint chore look very professional!
Once the paint is dry out, tie a cord around the base of the bulb and knot to create a hanger. Embellish with a small ribbon hot glued to the top.
DIY Ornamentation #4 – The Merry Minnies
These little ornaments are so sugariness and very unproblematic to DIY. I bought these mini ornaments at the dollar store – a dozen of them for $1.00!
Use a small paintbrush to dab dots of DecoArt Maxx Gloss pigment all around the ornament. Use a wooden clothespin clipped to the ornamentation base to keep it off the table while the paint dries.
One time dry, tie a loop of coordinating ribbon and hang on the tree!
DIY Ornament #5 – The Christmas Classic
This is the about bones ornamentation I made, but it's beautiful nonetheless. Sometimes all you want are classic ball ornaments, and yous can use the DecoArt Maxx Gloss to add a glossy new smooth to quondam thrift shop ornaments (see the discolored ones I repainted in the photo beneath). This pigment comes in tons of colors and so you could even call back out of the box and choose a non-traditional Christmas colour for these!
Simply paint a coat of pigment on the unabridged ornament, using a wooden clothespin clipped to the base as a stand up while the paint dries.
In one case dry out, string a thin ribbon through the ornament and hang on your Christmas tree!
And in that location you take it! Five super easy, super cute and super frugal handmade Christmas ornaments!
Happy crafting!
